Eldorado Springs
About Eldorado Springs, CO
Eldorado Springs has not been incorporated as a town, but the community has plenty of history — and beauty. Artesian wells were discovered near the mouth of Eldorado Canyon, and in 1906, a resort opened so people could swim in the water. Today, Eldorado Canyon State Park west of the community is a popular spot for rock climbers. Some of the sheer rock walls reach 1,500 feet high. The resort is still operated during the summer, and residents drink the pure spring water from their taps year-round. Other enjoyable features for residents include the scenic foothills location and the village atmosphere.
In the early 1900s, one of the biggest attractions for Eldorado Springs was Ivy Baldwin, who first walked across the canyon on a tightrope in 1907. The rope was 635 feet across and 582 feet high with no net underneath. Baldwin performed at the resort until 1948, when he made his last walk at the age of 82. No one like Baldwin is around Eldorado Springs today, but plenty of people come during the summer for the pool and the park.
Eldorado Springs is governed by the Boulder County Board of Commissioners.
